Simonton Employee Runs Boston Marathon, Raises $12k for Troops

Simonton Windows employee Joan Gates achieved her goal of running in the 2008 Boston Marathon on April 21. Along the way she gained the support of her fellow Simonton workers and raised more than $12,000 in contributions to support the non-profit organization, Homes for Our Troops. Gates, a resident of Washington, WV, completed the 112th Boston Marathon in 5 hours and 23 minutes. The 26.1-mile marathon, started in 1896, winds throughout Massachusetts and concludes in downtown Boston. MORE »
NKBA Teams Up With Microcad

The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) has chosen Microcad Software's Autokitchen as a software option for candidates taking their certification exams. Beginning with the September 2008 exams, the NKBA will offer candidates the option of taking an exam using the traditional paper and pencil hand drafting approach or using a modified CAD program. These candidates are testing to obtain NKBA certification status as a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD), Certified Kitchen Educator (CKE), Certified Bath Designer (CBD) and/or Certified Bath Educator (CBE). Water, Inc. Meets with Legislators to Discuss Water Quality

Water, Inc.—a distributor of luxury water products, decorative plumbing and high-end appliances for the home—participated in the 2008 Pacific Water Quality Association (PWQA) Legislative Days in Sacramento, CA. The PWQA is a non-profit organization that represents the water quality improvement industry. During the two-day event held March 10 and 11, PWQA members met with more than two dozen California state senators and assembly members to discuss current water-quality issues. Topics ranged from removing pharmaceutical toxins via reverse osmosis water systems to reducing chloride levels at water reuse plants. MORE »
NAHB Research Center Seeks Field Verifiers

NAHB Research Center and pass a verifier accreditation test. Although training sessions will be offered at various locations around the country at a cost to participants, the Concrete Home Building Council of NAHB is offering this training free to registered attendees of the 2008 Concrete Technologies Tour, which takes place June 1-3 in Charlotte, NC.
